University Visual Arts

I studied Visual Art with a major in Photography and a minor in Image Practice and Contemporary Practice, maintaining a key and sustained focus on exploring my identity as a Coloured individual born in Cape Town, South Africa, and raised in Auckland, New Zealand.
Throughout my academic journey, I engaged deeply with the rich and diverse history, as well as the lived experiences, of people of color. I drew significant inspiration and valuable guidance from the works of influential artists such as Lorna Simpson, Carrie Mae Weems, and Kara Walker.
Their powerful and thought-provoking creations greatly informed my understanding of narrative construction, representation, and cultural memory. This foundation enabled me to critically examine and thoughtfully express the nuanced complexities of my own identity, situating it within a broader historical, social, and cultural context.
